It was a 31°C Day across most of the Cape Peninsula today and many people headed out to Cape Town’s beaches to enjoy a swim in the sea. When two women found themselves in trouble in the cold and rough waters of Bloubergstrand Beach, Brandon Janeke, the Hero from Heideveld the Cape Flats wasted no time in taking action.

Janine Roode Becker arrived at the scene while Brandon was trying to recover from his daring feat. He was sitting in a car until paramedics took him to be treated in one of the ambulances. Janine who was concerned about his condition waited until the paramedics cleared him before speaking to him.

“This young man named Brandon Janeke who lives in Heideveld is my hero. Today he didn’t think twice to risk his own life to brave the rough sea at Blouberg beach to save the lives of two women who were drowning. He deserves the recognition and an award for being so brave.”

Heideveld Hero Deserves Recognition

Janine Roode Becker is hoping that there will be an effort made by city officials to honour Brandon Janeke for his heroism at Bloubergstrand Beach today, Saturday, 5 October 2024.
Though she has in person praised him during their conversation, Janine also has this special message for Brandon and we hope that he gets to read it.

“Well Done Brandon. You were absolutely amazing today. You have put your own life on the line to rescue not one, but two women. There’s not enough words to describe what an amazing job you have done.”
“As a mother, I felt proud of you. Your mother can be proud that she raised a son who didn’t think twice to rescue the two women.”
“Cape Town needs more people like you.”
