Why is Anti-Muslim Propaganda Spreading Among Black & Coloured South Africans?

There are obvious reasons why right wing white South Africans are spreading anti-Muslim propaganda, but why are Blacks & Coloureds doing it?

I can almost understand why many white South Africans are spreading anti-Muslim propaganda. After all, some of them have spent years spreading fear, misinformation and conspiracy theories about black South Africans, immigrants and anyone they perceive as a threat to their interests…

But what I genuinely struggle to understand is why Black and Coloured South Africans are climbing aboard the same propaganda train. Seriously, what exactly are Muslims responsible for in this country that should make you so eager to spread lies and hatred about them?

Have Muslims Causes Any of Our Problems?

Let’s look at South Africa for a moment. Inequality? Muslims didn’t create that. Apartheid? Muslims didn’t create that. Racism? Muslims aren’t responsible for that. The push for an Independent State and for white separatism? Muslims aren’t spearheading that. The endless lies about a so-called “white genocide” in South Africa? Muslims have nothing to do with that…

The demands that white farmers and white South Africans in general should be treated as more important than everyone else? Again, that’s not the work of Muslims. The racial conspiracy theories, the fearmongering and the relentless attempts to portray black South Africans as the enemy? Muslims aren’t responsible for that either. And I could go on…

Who’s Best Interest is Anti-Muslim Propaganda Serving?

I’m genuinely trying to understand the thinking here. Why would a black or coloured South African willingly participate in a propaganda campaign that paints an entire religious community as a threat, particularly when so much of that propaganda comes from the same political and ideological circles that have historically portrayed black South Africans as the problem?

I expect many white South Africans to jump on these bandwagons. Hell, we’re watching some of them do exactly that when it comes to black people, immigrants and the imaginary threat of a white genocide. But when Black and Coloured South Africans join in, I have to ask: what exactly do you think you’re contributing to? And what makes you believe that the people promoting this propaganda have your best interests at heart?

Just to be absolutely clear: I’m not suggesting that anyone should be hated. I’m not even suggesting that you should hate white South Africans. Don’t hate them. I don’t.

I’m simply pointing out that I can list countless issues that Black and Coloured South Africans have faced historically and continue to face today, and not one of them was caused by Muslims.

So, why is Anti-Muslim Propaganda Spreading Among Black & Coloured South Africans?
We don’t have all the anwers…
