Founded in 2014 by Angelique Kemp and the late Mark Murison, The Angel Foundation, which originated in Heidedal, Bloemfontein, South Africa celebrates it first decade of making amajor difference in the lives of their beneficiaries.
The Angel Foundation is a one-of-a-kind non-profit orginisation which exists for those talented young athletes, artists and learners who face financial challenges and would otherwise be unable to accomplish their dreams due to a lack of funds.
Since they are based in Heidedal, a predominantly Coloured area in Bloemfontein, their beneficiaries are primarily from Heidedal, but they not strictly limited to Heidedal alone.
What They Do
Through fund-raising initiatives, such as beneficiary events and projects they raise funds, in order to assist youths to compete and excel in their designated areas, whether it be sport, academics, arts or culture. It is with the assistance of a network of Angels that they are able to plan, determine and strategise events and fund-raisers to aid their beneficiaries. The core of the driving force of this network is to keep on making a difference One Child At a Time.
Included among their Angels are popular comedians Dillan Oliphant and Virgil Prins who on 31 May 2024 hosted a comedy show to help raise funds for the young Heidedal Field Hockey sensation, Neiliyandro van Schalkwyk, to travel to Belgium and The Netherlands later this year.
Among their projects The Angel Foundation also regularly sources and supplies sanitary towels to local schools. This is in a bid to maintain the dignity of young female learners who are unable to afford sanitary towels or who are caught off-guard by a sudden need for sanitary towels.
They also have annual school shoe drives among their many initiatives to make a difference in the lives of young school children.
Why They Do What They Do
Coming from a neighbourhood where the dire situations of our youths are ever prevalent, the need for a community based non-profit organization came to light. The Angel Foundation sees a future where no talented youth will be left behind in the race due to economic reasons.
“Knowing that we could make it possible for a young child to charge across the winning line with their head held high, propels us towards assisting tomorrows heroes today!” it says on the Angel Foundation website.
