Now that we are somewhat back to normal in state of mind and heart, something has been brought to my attention and being who I am, I had to voice my opinion on the subject. Now of course this is just my opinion of this and I do not wish to influence the masses, though that would be a good idea.
I have been told this a million times by a dear loved one who shall not be mentioned, that hard work is the only way to get where you are going and to get there on time. I do agree because, wealth and success is a huge milestone for many people within not only our country but our communities as well. Money makes the world go round and so do success and every physiognomy that comes with it. I am all for hard work and people who put the pedal to the metal and go out there and achieve their goals, hopes and dreams. My only issue with this is that everything else falls by the way side. Friends, family, health…. I compare the building blocks of success to a nice dish of let’s say… Macaroni and Cheese like only your aunty Margie can make. You know the kind? She starts with the pasta at the bottom of the oven dish, you know she made that lekker mince curry with the peppers and mushrooms and then she tops that with more macaroni and then adds some white sauce (the say it is to hold it all together what somehow it still breaks a bit) and then the cheese on the top. Lekker ne? Well I think it is the same with fame, fortune, success. If you remove the macaroni at the bottom, it just won’t be the same. As with success, if you remove your loved ones, the sweet smell of success will be just another bad smell in the air. Or if she didn’t add the mince. It would be bland and tasteless, same with successes, if you over work and don’t take care of yourself then you will become bland and a shadow of yourself. All the ingredients are there and they fit to make a great dish because that is how it works. You can’t just have one without the other because it just won’t be the same. It can’t be the same. Then all you have is that macaroni and cheese with niks else in it and that is not lekker unless you camouflage it with All Gold and that dry chicken aunty Elsie made again.
We are human I know and we have needs that need to be fulfilled. But you have to remember to take advantage of the simple things in life. I know you are waiting for me to go on about smelling the coffee and the roses and appreciation of sunsets and sunrises. No, you have to take in the simple things, like that irritating noise your brother makes when he is busy drinking coke, or your moms sweet smell when she hugs you, or your dad shouting at you because you missed another family meeting. The simple things that affect you or infect you on a daily bases. The bus ride to work, the movies with friends. Those simple things that are both monotonous yet so simple. You do them all the time but somewhere along the line we get so wrapped up in our goals and successes that we lose sight of what is really important. Friends, family, our health but mostly our own happiness. There is no joy in losing friends on your journey to Eldorado… Nee mense, focus. Not Eldorado Park, the other Eldorado… City of Gold?… Anyway, we need to find a balance at some point. We need to balance it all out not only for our own sake but for the sake of our dear friend sanity. Jy sal mal word van al die werk.
With that said I want to tell all my people’s who are doing like they doing it for TV to keep at it and make us proud. Just remember not to lose focus of the important things in life like love, family and good health. No use in achieving all you want and not having someone to share it with, or a family to borrow kroon from you or live long enough to see it all become colossal. So keep it real, work hard but work smart. Remember that everything in life is a journey. One step at a time, agter os kom ook in die kraal so to speak. Besides, what is the point in dying while trying…….
