Firm favourite in the 100m finals at the 2018 IOC Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires, South African sprint sensation Luke Davids charged over the line in 10.15 seconds to win the 100m Gold Medal on Monday 15 October 2018.

The 17 year old South African Youth Champion from Belhar on the Cape Flats is also the African Youth Champion after he won Gold at the 2018 African Youth Games in Algiers in a time of 10.34 on 25 July.

He claimed his stake as the firm favourite for Monday’s final when he charged over the line in 10.56 seconds to win his 100m heat, covering the dash in 0.20 seconds faster than his quickest opponent.

This extremely quick lad who attends Parow High School seems really comfortable when crossing the line smiling at the cameras finishing a pace or two ahead of his rivals. The ease with which he finished his gold medal race on Monday shows that he is still quite far from reaching his peak and will most likely be a major force to be reckoned with when he starts competing at senior level.

Looking like he could go another round as he crossed the line to take Youth Olympics gold, Luke Davids is also no slouch in the 200m sprint having placed 2nd at the 2018 African Youth Games in Algiers in a time of 21.04 on 27 July.

With South Africa now having both the Men’s Olympic 100m Gold brought home by Wayde van Niekerk and the Boy’s Youth Olympic 100m Gold of Luke Davids, it is noteworthy that both of these phenomenal athletes are from Cape Town where there is a sore need for kids to see positive role models from within Coloured communities.

We at Bruinou.com are full of hope that their successes will inspire not only young athletes from the communities where both Luke and Wayde are from but that youth from all over South Africa, whether they are into athletics or not, irrespective of their population group or economic status, will all see our Olympic Gold Medallists as role models who inspire them to chase their dreams whatever those dreams may be.

Well done young Luke!

We can't wait to see what the future holds for you.
