Screen grab from Youngsta CPT's Top Ten List video evoking Friday the 13th imagery,
When MTV Base released its controversial Top Ten List for the Hottest MCs of 2015 one of SA's most hardworking Hip Hop artists decided to set the record straight.
About a week or two later in early December 2015 Youngsta CPT released the single Top Ten list as a direct indictment on the media hype and bias afforded to what he and many others consider to be undeserving artists.

He has now followed that up with a brilliantly produced video for the song released on Friday 13th May 2016.
With visuals reminiscent of the Fridat the 13th horror flick, scenes from the video hit you with imagary that alludes to a scorned protagonist ready to slaughter those who are withholding him of his rightful place in the hierarchy of Hip Hop.

In his lyrical assault he makes it plain that he doesn't really care about not making the number one spot but the fact is plain and simple; the list is biased.
Youngsta CPT drives the point home by doing what we feel makes him a great MC; He gave shout-outs and props to an impressive list of other really great SA and specifically Cape Town Hip Hop artists who are constantly being overlooked by the industry gatekeepers.

We can't count how many times we have mentioned Youngsta CPT in our bruinou.com articles before and we are yet to get the man to sit still for just a little bit long enough so we can do a real feature article on him and take a little closer look at the man behind the music.

Youngsta CPT unofficially holds the title of the Mixtape King of SA Hip Hop and even before he officially released his first album, he held the distinction of Releasing 24 Mixtapes in 24 Months (2010-2011) and those were and are still regarded as high quality productions.
His Visual Vrydag series is a concept that has produced 25 music videos in 2015 alone. Just like his mixtapes, there is no lack of quality in the videos either.
The Controversial MTV Base Top ten List for the Hottest MCs of 2015

The 25 year old owner of the Y?Gen record label has collaborated with some of SA's most talented artists such as Grandmaster DJ Ready D, Tumi Molekane, Audiophile021, DJ Switch, Reason, Arsenic and many more, including international artist, ill Gates.
One of our favourite colabs in that impressive list is 'What Have You Done My Brother' which he did with Tumi and Reason.
He has also shared stages with international artists, such as Talib Kweli, Lil Wayne, Young Guru, Casey Veggies, Hudson Mohawke, DJ A-Trak, Masta Ace, Gentlemen, and many others.

Having performed at the 2015 Cape Town International Jazz Festival (CTIJF) and the 2016 Cape Town Electronic Music Festival (CTEMF) he has started developing a noteworthy cross-genre appeal.
His fan base is constantly growing and we at bruinou.com count Youngsta CPT as a SA Hip Hop Heavyweight.

His list of achievements and accolades certainly makes this brilliant rant of a song a very valid rant.
The industry bigwigs and gatekeepers need to catch a wakeup and recognise; Youngsta CPT's number is 021.
