Nadine Cloete’s documentary film Action Kommandant which explores the story of anti-apartheid student activist & liberation struggle hero Ashley Kriel, will premiere at the South African Encounters Documentary Film Festival 2016 and just recently, the official trailer has also been released.

Encounters is the longest-running, premier creative documentary film festival in South Africa and on the African continent. Held over 10 days every June, Encounters offers a diverse and exceptional programme of contemporary documentaries engaged with culture, society, identity and gender, politics, economics, the environment and world events.

Action Kommandant allows for the confrontation of South Africa’s past, making the voices and actions of those who fought against apartheid visible to us.
Recently, some of the research that went into the film has also helped in forcing the South African special investigations unit, The Hawks, to reopen the case of Kriel’s murder.

Action Kommandant crossed it's last big financial hurdle in March 2016 through a Crowd Funding Project started in February and which bruinou.com also whole-heartedly promoted.
This allowed for final mixing and colouring to be completed in time for the film's premiere at Encounters.

The first official trailer of the film Action Kommandant: The Untold Story of The Revolutionary Freedom Fighter Ashley Kriel,  has been released on Freedom Day 27 April 2016 and Nadine Cloete has shared her excitent with us. She has overcome many obstacles to get to this point and the Encounters premiere is naturally something she is looking forward to.

Nadine has assured Bruinou.com that plans are afoot to make the documentary accessible to wider audiences in due course, especially to those Cape Flats communities of which Ashley Kriel and his comrades were an active part of, but this will probably only happen once the film has done the rounds of international film festivals as documentaries of such a nature usually do.
Until then, we encourage you to attempt being among the first people to see the film by booking your seat at Encounters or any of the future film festivals wich will feature Action Kommandant.

Encounters Screenings run from 02 to 12 June and will be held at Labia in Cape Town and Bioscope in Johannesburg as well as both Cape Town & Johannesburg Cinema Nouveau theatres.
Bruinou.com will update this article with the exact Encounters times and venues for the Action Kommandant screenings as soon they become available.
