Ajay Wonderboy, a rising star from Elsies River on the Cape Flats, has in the past few years built a reputation for mesmerising audiences with his powerful voice and his captivating stage presence, particularly with his renditions of Afrikaans songs and his performances as a lead singer in Malay Choirs.
Albeit his first language is English, Ajay is pretty fluent in Afrikaans and his love for singing in Afrikaans is abundantly clear.
Ajay has also qualified for Britain’s Got Talent and recently performed with an A-List of South African artists at his AJAY’S WONDERBOY’s Britain’s Got Talent Fundraiser Concert on the 17th of November 2024 at the Artscape in Cape Town.
Written by his dad, Ashley Pienaar, himself well-known entertainer, Kersfees Sonder Jou got its inspiration when Ashley noticed the impact that Ajay’s maternal grandfather’s death had on Ajay. Ashley also recognised that the rapid loss of life of young children on the Cape Flats due to gang violence heavily affects Ajay and many more children his age and younger.
The deaths of young children on the Cape Fats and in other parts of the country is affecting Ajay as much as it affects most other children his age. Ajay Wonderboy is no stranger to the trauma that children his age regularly goes throug each time a child goes missing is is hurt by an adult. Ajay grew up in the same road from where Tazne Van Wyk was kidnapped.
Ajay also did a song on TikTok dedictated to the still missing Joslin Smith from Saldana Bay. Joslin Kom Huistoe is based on the classic Jantjie (Kom Huistoe) made famous by Sonja Herholdt.
In the video for Kersfees Sonder Jou one can see the genuine emotion with which Ajay sings the song which is dedicated to all families who have lost their kids and family members, since loss is especially felt more intensely at Christmas time.
