Uncle Cal Has Put Together an Awesome Reshuffled Lineup for the Third Edition of the Cape Town Jazz Party via Joburg at The View in Kibler Park

Jozi! Are you ready for the Third Edition of the Cape Town Jazz Party via Joburg with its awesome reshuffled lineup of musicians and DJ’s?
Having just returned from a triumphant tour doing events in New Zealand, Uncle Cal is once again looking forward to showing the Jozi crowd the time of their life on Saturday 7 September 2024.

Introducing some exciting new additions to the line-up, including the fantastic Jozi-based band Rhythmic Pulse, and the return of some favourites from the first and second editions of the CapeTown Jazz Party via Joburg, the event at The View, Kibler Park builds on the amazing success of the previous two held in September 2023 and April 2024.

Hosting his third Cape Town Jazz Via Joburg event, The Afro Ninja aka DJ Uncle Cal will once again in his Kung Fu Outfit, Curly Afro Hair and Disco Era Sunglasses be hitting the decks with some of the best Old School Disco Funk & Club Jazz to keep party-goers at The View, Kibler Park, strutting their dance moves on Saturday 7 September 2024.


Uncle Cal has over many years built up a large following across the country, and indeed the subcontinent and across the globe, and is known as a Custodian of The Old School.

The Cape Town based DJ is also well-known for The Uncle Cal Xperience Radio Show syndicated to various online platforms internationally along with  a number of FM radio stations including the Eldorado Park based Eldos FM which is the official media partner of The Cape Town Jazz Party via Joburg.


The huge success of the first two Cape Town Jazz Party via Joburg events held at The View, Kibler Park in September 2023 and April 2024 are not only a testament to Uncle Cal’s prowess as a legendary DJ, but it also speaks volumes of his skills as an event organiser.

The creator of world class events such as the Jazz On The Lawn and the Matroosfontein Jazz Reunion festivals, Uncle Cal has over decades built up a reputation of creating events that showcases some of the best local and international talent.
Albeit that his recent tour to New Zealand had its own organisers withUncle Cal headlining the lineup, as expected, in early August the Big SA Party with Uncle Cal Wowed Recycled Teens in Kiwi Land.

Aside from the the introduction of Rhythmic Pulse, the Third Edition of the Cape Town Jazz Party via Joburg sees the return of Saxophonist Don Vino and Guitarist Henry Philemon.
A n exciting new addition that we are sure the Jozi crowd will love is the legendary singer Leslie Kleinsmith whom you can read more about further below.
Returning to join Uncle Cal on the decks at The Venue, Kibler Park for the third time is DJ Charlie Brown and new to the DJ lineup is Jozi’s popular DJ Ady, both of whom we’ll also tell you more about.

Rhythmic Pulse

Joining the Cape Town Jazz Party via Joburg lineup for their very first time, Jozi-based band Rhythmic Pulse will definitely bring a new energy to Uncle Cal’s event at The View, Kibler Park on 7 September 2024.

 

With their fantastic tight instrumentation and great vocal harmonies is a highly professional, energetic, and versatile band consists of Male Lead Vocalist – Grant Johnson, Female Lead vocalist – Monique Hendricks, Piano and Keyboards – Curt Petrus, who is also the Musical Director, Bassist – Edwin Steyn and Drummer – Keith Marisheni. 

These 5 seasoned session musicians came together to form a collective, creating their own sound and synergy, crossing genres that include Pop, AfroPop, RnB-Soul, Rock and Jazz Funk. 

 

Individually they each have a vast background from theatre, to music festivals, weddings, private functions, to television productions and corporate events. They have shared the stage with many household names individually and collectively like Mango Groove, Mi Casa, Zoë Modiga, Chante Moore (USA), Paul Simon (USA), Jonathan Butler, Idols Sa Band, Selena Johnson (USA), Dr Victor, Jamali, Hugh Masekela, to name a few.

 

As is customary with Cape Town Jazz Party via Joburg events, the featured band, aside from their set live performances, also  with the other individual artists on the lineup. 

Rhythmic Pulse will no doubt be bringing you their best when doing their set live performances, and together with the rest of the lineup, they will be creating that magic that will be keeping the Cape Town Jazz Party via Joburg crowd on the dance floor.

 

Henry Philemon

Guitarist Henry Philemon will return for a second at the Cape Town Jazz Party via Joburg to bring his exciting dynamic to the Uncle Cal event at The View, Kibler Park on 7 September 2024.


A definite crowd favourite at the previous Cape Town Jazz Party via Joburg in April 2024, Henry Philemon’s music has a quality and appeal that can captivate the more serious jazz aficionado as well as appeal to the urban jazz crowd. Along with his soulful Afro Jazz Fusion style, one can detect a number of musical influences, including a touch of Cape Jazz, and he is also not averse to venturing into the more uptempo territory of Jazz-infused House Music. After all, Henry Philemon is the guitarist featuring on the highly popular DJ Jazzy D track Bel Avi.

His 2016 album Man of Definition winning the 2017 Metro FM Award for Best Urban Jazz Album by beating out the likes of Jimmy Dludlu, Hugh Masekela and Thandiswa Mzwai was also no small feat. 

Uncle Cal Productions aims to bring an Authentic Experience of Cape Jazz Culture to their event at The View, Kibler Park and it can’t get more authentic than the fact that the Jogurg guitarist Henry Philemon was actually born in Cape Town.

Although he moved to Jozi at the tender age of two and grew up there, the Cape Town Jazz Party via Joburg crowd can once again look forward to The Man of Definition, Henry Philemon, also defining some of his Cape Jazz heritage.

 

Leslie Kleinsmith

The legendary Leslie Kleinsmith, whose soulful interpretation of jazz and contemporary classics captivates audiences around the world,  will be a highlight of the Cape Town Jazz Party via Joburg at The View, Kibler Park on 7 September 2024.

 

With his hits How to Win Your Love & Valerie among the singles from his 2016 album All Wound Up that are still as popular as ever, Leslie Kleinsmith continues to get high rotation on Adult Contemporary radio shows and the Cape Jazz dance scene.

The quintessential live performer whose warm soulful vocal range is excellently complemented by his awesome stage presence is the embodiment of Cape Jazz. Growing up in District Six and performing professionally since the age of 13, Leslie Kleinsmith cut his teeth on the ever evolving Cape Jazz and Cabaret scene with some of the greatest jazz artists and bands of the time. 

 

Living between Le Mans in France and Cape Town, and traveling the rest of the world, Leslie Kleinsmith has garnered a global following.

Mastering many different genres which include Pop, R&B, Rock, Funk, Ballads and Big Band Jazz, any event with Leslie Kleinsmith on the bill is sure to sell out their tickets fast.

 

 

Don Vino

Returning to the Cape Town Jazz via Joburg stage at The View, Kibler Park on 7 September 2024, Saxophonist Don Vino is no doubt an absolutely phenomenal treasure in the South African Music Industry. With his sound which has a “sax appeal” that is trendy, current and reflects an holistic approach to music which has an international appeal, we are sure that the crowd has missed since last appearance on the Cape Town Jazz Party via Joburg lineup in September 2023.

 

As a highly regarded session musician he has featured on numerous albums with local and international artists and as a solo recording artist Don Vino released his debut single “Worried” in 2018 which was followed by the release of his album “All The Way” ft Vicky Sampson in that same year.

Over the past few years his installments of his stage production #SaxyVibes which features artists such as PJ Powers, Jarred Rickets and Amy Jones continue to be quite a successful celebration of his talent and craftsmanship.


Aside from regularly featuring on Uncle Cal’s live shows, Don Vino who also features with singer Loren Erasmus on Uncle Cal’s radio hit, the remake of the Shirley Bassey classic Never Never Never.

Performing with the band Rhythmic Pulse, Don Vino will be the Jozi crowd on their feet.

Charlie Brown

Joining Uncle Cal once again is DJ Charlie Brown aka Charlton Brown who returns for the third leg of the Cape Town Jazz Party via Joburg at The View, Kibler Park on 7 September 2024. 


The Jozi native who has a great rapport with his hometown audience and has for many years been making a name for himself as a club and events DJ is also a radio presenter on the Eldorado Park based Eldos FM which is a Media Partner of the Uncle Cal Productions event at Kibler Park.


Charlton Brown is also a trained actor who, aside from his growing list of movie and television roles, can currently be seen as Ruff Beats in the 4th season of the Netflix series Blood & Water.
A renowned events host, Charlie Brown will, aside from joining Uncle Cal in the DJ Booth, also be sharing compère duties and adding his own touch of flair to the Cape Town Jazz Party via Joburg.

DJ Ady

Adrian Minnaar, affectionately known as Ady The Party DJ, joins the lineup for the third instalment of the Cape Town Jazz Party via Joburg at The View, Kibler Park on 7 September 2024.  DJ Ady has been keeping dance floors filled since May 2005 after starting his DJ career in Gauteng nightclubs. He later found his niche doing weddings and corporate events as it allows him to play a wide range of genres which is where his strength lies.

DJ Ady is also highly popular on Jozi’s Old School Party events circuit.
Known for his multi-genre versatility and an ability to entertain a diverse range of audiences, DJ Ady will be adding an extra new layer of flavour to the next Cape Town Jazz Party via Joburg.
