Effervescence: Xamisa, iKapa, Kaapstad brings Capetonian musical icons together alongside the most sparkling up-and-coming future talents from Stellenbosch University, in an exciting amalgamation of diverse people, cultures, and artistry.
US Jazz Band director Felicia Lesch is particularly excited to be seeing cabaret artist and jazz singer Leslie Kleinsmith, legendary jazz guitarist Alvin Dyers, ethno-jazz chanteuse Babalwa Mentjies and Afrikaans Hip Hop sensation Jason ‘Hakkiesdraad’ Hartman sharing their talents with aspirant young musicians in this truly rare collaboration.
On Sunday 15 October at 4pm you are invited to step into the vibrant world of Cape Town’s jazz scene with the SU Jazz Band.
Taking centre stage is jazz legend Leslie Kleinsmith, whose soulful interpretation of jazz and contemporary classics has captivated audiences around the world. Virtuoso jazz guitarist Alvin Dyers will showcase the unique fusion of African rhythms and harmonies that define Cape jazz, and songstress Babalwa Mentjies will touch your soul with songs of love, longing and resilience. Afrikaans hip-hop sensation Jason “Hakkiesdraad” Hartman will have you on your feet, dancing and celebrating the spirit of Cape Town’s music melting pot.
