Triangle Project is thrilled to announce the Queer Food Growing Collective (QFGC) Market, taking place on 1 September from 10 AM to 2 PM at their offices located at 2-4 Seymour Street, Observatory. This market is more than just a place to shop—it’s a community space where queer individuals and allies can come together to celebrate sustainability, creativity, and mutual support.
The market will feature a range of engaging workshops and activities designed to inspire and educate. Buci from the Queer Food Growing site in Mbekweni, will lead an upcycling planting workshop, where participants are encouraged to bring along plastic 2L bottles to transform into planting containers, combining sustainability with creativity.
Sharing Indigenous Knowledge
Indigenous Culture Activist, Author and Playwrite, Denver Toroga; will host a language workshop, offering insights and skills that celebrate the diversity of our community. Additionally, there will be a special talk on beekeeping, providing valuable information on the importance of bees in our ecosystem and tips on starting your own beekeeping journey. The event will also explore the use of indigenous medicines and herbs, sharing traditional knowledge that connects us with our roots and promotes natural health practices. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in a seed swapping activity, fostering a spirit of sharing and collaboration among gardeners.
In addition to the workshops, the market will feature a variety of stalls showcasing the talents of local queer artisans and entrepreneurs. On offer will be handmade crochet items, beaded creations, clothing, accessories, artisanal soaps and candles. There will also be unique queer-themed merchandise, and nourishing body butter for sale. There will also be a range of delicious food options available, ensuring that everyone can enjoy a satisfying meal while browsing the market.
